N2  - Medical students are a high-risk population for having suicidal thoughts and behaviors. However, few studies have been fulfilled on this subject. In Morocco, no study has ever been published in this regard. <br><br>OBJECTIVES: Objectives of our study were to estimate the prevalence, to clarify the factors associated with the ideas and attempts of suicide among medical students in Morocco. <br><br>METHODS: This is a multicentric transversal, descriptive and analytical study of medical students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle. <br><br>RESULTS: Among 600 students from the seven Faculty of medicine in Morocco; 5% had made at least one suicide attempt and 31% had suicidal thoughts. Suicidal ideations were significantly associated with psychoactive substance use (2.4 [1.4-3.9], P: 0.0003), poor mental health (P: 0.00000), and suicide attempts (P: 0.0000000). While, suicide attempts are significantly associated with poor mental health (P: 0.0000000) and suffering from a chronic illness (2 [0.94-4.2], P: 0.04). <br><br>CONCLUSION: Suicidal attempts and ideas seem to be a serious problem for medical students in Morocco. Prevention and support measures must be put in place to limit this phenomenon. © 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
