TY - JOUR PY - 2021// TI - The Interface of Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Suicide, and Surrender: Implications for Treatment and Approaches JO - Alcoholism treatment quarterly A1 - Shupp, M. A1 - Brooks, F. A1 - Yost, L. SP - 198 EP - 209 VL - 39 IS - 2 N2 - The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of addiction, suicide, and surrender. Explored through a narrative inquiry lens, findings confirmed that the process of surrender is a crucial element in long-term recovery. Embracing the concept of surrender allows individuals living with addiction to gain control by giving up control, leading potentially to long-term recovery. Implications for treatment, both facility- and clinician-centric, are shared. © 2020 Taylor & Francis.
