N2 - INTRODUCTION: Suicidal behaviour is a mental health problem that reveals an imbalance with life. It is necessary to promote life, the protective factors that nurture mental health; hence, the objective of this study was to recognise positive mental health as a protective factor for the prevention of suicidal behaviour, based on the implementation of support groups as a methodological device.
METHODS: The study was carried out from a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method with the purpose of presenting the perceptions and subjective elaborations of participants in a support group for suicide prevention offered by the Luis Amigó Catholic University, Medellín, Colombia.
RESULTS: It was found that relational aspects such as family care, emotions, spirituality, and self-care are dimensions of positive mental health that need to be strengthened.
CONCLUSIONS: Positive mental health allows us to achieve daily strategies that favour the understanding of multiple life factors for the containment and treatment of suicidal behaviour. © 2022 Asociación Colombiana de Psiquiatría
