N2  - The present work is an analysis of case with aspects of torture and suicide occurred in the south of Santa Catarina in 1996. The intention of the analysis was to study how the written press, in particular one periodic of the capital portrayed this case. It was gathered the quoted paper from August 28th to September 15th of 1996 and analyzed every report that was published by this paper. It was verified that the news made an association between the tortures of the merchant with his suicide. The conclusion is that the press is away from the ideal of impartiality and pure news telling without subjectivity and ideological positions...<p /> <p>Language: pt</p>
