TY - JOUR PY - 1994// TI - Borderline personality disorder in patients with chronic alcoholism JO - Sucht A1 - von der Stein, B. A1 - Podoll, K. SP - 99 EP - 106 VL - 40 IS - 2 N2 - The study examined the presence of DSM-III-R (axis II) borderline personality disorder in patients with chronic alcoholism without concurrent major axis I conditions. Of 150 alcoholic patients consecutively admitted to an inpatient alcoholism program, 51 (34%) met criteria for borderline personality disorder. Borderline alcoholics were more likely to have a history of early neurotic symptoms, drug abuse, self-injurious behaviour, suicide attempts, aggressive and delinquent behaviour. Therapeutical implications of these findings are discussed.
