TY - JOUR PY - 1995// TI - Case report: Cases of recovery from paraquat poisoning without pulmonary fibrosis JO - Therapeutic Research A1 - Taki, K. A1 - Hirahara, K. A1 - Tomita, S. A1 - Totoki, T. SP - 521 EP - 529 VL - 16 IS - 4 N2 - A 54-year-old man was admitted 3 hours after ingesting about 20 ml of paraquat solution (Glamoxon S®), and a 36-year-old man was admitted 12 hours after ingesting 20-30 ml of paraquat solution (Glamoxon S®). According to the Proudfoot survival curve, RI value and Sawada's SIPP, one of these cases was severe, but the other was not. Both cases recovered without developing pulmonary fibrosis, though PIIIP, PMN elastase, BUN, creatinine and β2-macroglobulin increased and Paraquat-induced interstitial pneumonia was observed. Therefore, in addition to aggressive therapy with ulinastatin, corticosteroid and other agents, local therapy using inspiration of ulinastatin should be considered in patients who show progressive deterioration in respiratory function.
