N2  - If depressive episodes often occur in schizophrenia, the problem till exists of their evaluation and identification, because of the overlap of depressive symptoms with akinesia or with negative symptomatology, caused by neuroleptics, particulary in the post-psychotic period; Usual-depression scales have not been meant for schizophrenics. Two-scales which have been tested in our research group-Echelle de Ralentissement Depressif (Depressive slowdown scale) and Calgary Depression Scale which were independent of scores of Akinesia or negative symptomatology seemed to provide relevant measures of depression in this sample of schizophrenic patients stabilized by neuroleptics treatment for at least 4 weeks. In the post-psychotic period, physicians have to recognise each of these syndromes,to provide the best treatment (anticholinergic or antidepressant agents), to prevent increased morbidity and mortality, as a matter of fact, suicide often occurs during this period, and especially Since real 'post-psychotic depression' can benefit from the adjunction of antidepressants to the neuroleptic treatment.<p /> <p>Language: fr</p>
