TY - JOUR PY - 1991// TI - The new responsibility for prison health: Working with the public health community JO - Journal of prison and jail health A1 - Weisbuch, J.B. SP - 3 EP - 18 VL - 10 IS - 1 N2 - As the prison population grows, demands upon prison health providers multiply. This paper argues that prison health workers must manage prison pathology both clinically and from the perspective of its public health implications. Substance abuse, AIDS, hepatitis, trauma, violence, tuberculosis, suicide, mental illness, and venereal disease are personal health problems with significant public health implications. They require prison health workers to join with state and local health professional to assure that both personal and public health needs are optimally served.
