N2  - Winnicott's false self concept provides the starting point for an intrapersonal model of the impact and long-term effect of abuse. Abuse creates a false self personality system which carries a circumscribed set of behaviours and attitudes directed both at self and others. It is the opposite of the reciprocally enhancing relationship he named holding.<p />
