N2 - Investigated the temporal relationship between the mood states of anxiety and depression. 60 undergraduates who completed the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale were classified as high (Nā=ā30) or low (Nā=ā30) in cognitive vulnerability with respect to the need for social approval from others. The high vulnerable group was significantly more anxious than the low vulnerability group before the interaction. After receiving feedback indicating social disapproval, the highly vulnerable group reacted with significantly higher depression and hostility scores. A 2nd aim of the study was to examine the possibility of cognitive distortion in Ss' memory for how they were rated. Although it was predicted that the high vulnerability group would remember their rating as more negative than the low vulnerability group, no group differences were found.
RESULTS are discussed in accordance with cognitive models of emotional distress. (French abstract) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) suicide risk
