TY - JOUR PY - 2016// TI - Hypersexualité chez les étudiants universitaires hétérosexuels. [Hypersexuality in heterosexual college students.] JO - Canadian journal of behavioural science A1 - Levaque, Enya A1 - Sawatsky, Megan L. A1 - Lalumière, Martin L. SP - 182 EP - 192 VL - 48 IS - 3 N2 - This study examined hypersexuality (i.e., greater sexual desire or more frequent sexual behaviour than the norm, accompanied by negative consequences or distress) in a sample of heterosexual university students using various questionnaires and indicators. The sample included 717 male and female students between the ages of 18 and 24 who attended an Ontario university. Sex differences were found for many of the questionnaires and indicators, suggesting that men were more hypersexual than women. In addition, when compared to the adult sample from Långström and Hanson (2006), our participants were more hypersexual across the various impersonal sexual behaviours examined. Lastly, a substantial portion of our sample reached the proposed hypersexuality cut-off points, leading us to question the validity and generalizability of these criteria. This study highlights the importance of establishing norms and cut-off points specific to a given population. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
