TY - JOUR PY - 1933// TI - Ignorance of the Law in Tacitus and Dio: Two Instances from the History of Tiberius JO - Transactions and Proceedings of the American Philological Association A1 - Rogers, Robert Samuel SP - 18 EP - 27 VL - 64 IS - N2 - The idea of Tacitus and Dio that suicide before conviction obviated confiscation is proved erroneous by specific cases in Tacitus' narrative and by a passage of Ulpian. The sale of slaves in connection with their giving testimony against their master, which Tacitus and Dio represent as circumvention of the law by Tiberius, it appears from the jurists was provided by law; and sale followed examination instead of preceding. Keywords: Suicide
