N2  - This is a report on a mental patient who at the age of forty-seven made an attempt, not his first, to do away with himself after sustaining losses in speculation and in gambling. Our interest is in the intense efforts made by that patient to invent foolproof schemes for success in gambling. We are also interested in the retrospective analysis by Q of the planned aspects of his attempts at suicide.
