SP - 203 EP - 215 VL - 32 IS - N2 - In order to examine automobile safety performance over a wide range of design parameters it is necessary to rely on computer generated response surface studies. One of the tools for use in such studies is the Passenger and Driver Simulator (PADS) system from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The PADS system includes a 2-D occupant simulator, a NHTSA supported vehicle data base, graphical output, and extensive preprocessing support. The PADS simulator itself contains a 3-point restraint system and a detailed steering assembly model with six modes of rotation and collapse. This report describes the current status of PADS implementation.
