TY - JOUR PY - 1980// TI - Alcohol and the commercial driver JO - Proceedings: American Association for Automotive Medicine Annual Conference A1 - Perchonok, K. SP - 170 EP - 175 VL - 24 IS - N2 - Several means for judging the extent of the alcohol problem among drivers of heavy trucks were investigated. They included discussions with interested persons, a review of existing literature, and an analysis of accident data from FARS. The major reasons for variation among previous findings were thought to include differences in alcohol detection methods, accident severity levels, and driver selection factors. The FARS data, analyzed with a view to these problems, showed nineteen percent of fatally injured drivers of heavy trucks had been drinking.
