TY - JOUR PY - 1973// TI - Motor carrier accident evaluation (medical aspects) JO - Proceedings: American Association for Automotive Medicine Annual Conference A1 - Ballenger, M SP - 408 EP - 417 VL - 17 IS - N2 - We casually talk about men and vehicles in space, the landing of man on the moon and heart transplants. Science and technology have virtually performed miracles -- yet, more than 50,000 people are killed annually on our Nation's highways. Interstate commercial vehicles have more than 3 1/2 million accidents a year and over 5,000 occupant fatalities. Sixty thousand accident reports are submitted to the Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety each year, and about 350 are given in-depth investigation. Of these, about one a month is selected to be a "published accident report" that is written up in consideration detail. These are used as examples in the interest of improved public safety. One of these cases has been selected to review at this time to bring out problem areas for consideration and discussion.
