TY - JOUR PY - 2009// TI - Self-harm presentations in movies JO - Tidsskrift for den Norske Laegeforening A1 - Skårderud, Finn SP - 896 EP - 899 VL - 129 IS - 9 N2 - The aim of this article is to demonstrate how movies can enhance our understanding of the phenomenology of self-destructive behaviour. Various aspects of self-harm, including psychological individual characteristics and cultural trends, have been elucidated through a strategic selection of movies. As movies represent a popular rather than a medical discourse, they can provide physicians and health professionals with different and non-medical perspectives of self-harm.
