TY - JOUR PY - 2017// TI - Less severe dental trauma in children and adolescents and its relation with public health JO - Adolescência e saúde A1 - Miranda, Marianna Sorozini Ferreira de A1 - Ramos, Amanda Barreto A1 - Moro, André Fabio Vasconcelos A1 - Wanzeller, Beatriz Faro A1 - Silva, Thais Almeida da A1 - Lamosa, Ana Christina A1 - Miranda, Mauro Sayão de A1 - Perez, Cesar dos Reis SP - 154 EP - 162 VL - 14 IS - 2 N2 - OBJECTIVE: Adolescence is a stage of life with important changes, new experiences and discoveries. That is one of the reasons why the rate of dental trauma occurrence increases significantly. The objective of this study was to propose a holistic approach, ranging from the etiology to planning and interdisciplinary treatment of young patients. DATA SOURCE: The PubMed database was used to search for the terms "dental trauma" and "adolescents". DATA SYNTHESIS: The dental trauma is presented as a common public health problem and extremely relevant among children and adolescents, regarding the cost of the treatment and its consequences which may extend to adulthood. The possibility of irreparable damage, at the 1 of injury or later, affects the confidence and self-esteem of the patient. In addition, the dental trauma approach to medica services and public health must go beyond the scope of the dental patient recovery. Knowledge of the target audience, the possibility of association with cases of sexual abuse, drugs, violence and accidents make it a public health problem. CONCLUSION: The study highlights the importance of the examination, anamnesis and planning for the success of dental treatments. The awareness that it is a public health problem is needed, so that new policies and behavior should be sought to improve care, support and coverage in these cases.
