Ms. A, a 57-year-old woman with a history notable for alcoholism anddepression, attempted suicide by ingesting a large amount of alcohol andmedications, then lying down in a bathtub next to a pan of lit charcoalbriquettes in a closed room. Police found her some hours later after hertherapist called 911 when Ms. A failed to show for a regularly scheduledappointment. She was rushed to a nearby city hospital.
