Abstract

This paper reports on a door to door survey of 312 households to establish the prevalence of smoke alarm ownership in the two inner London boroughs. The method was a questionnaire which asked questions on ownership and maintenance of smoke alarms. Results showed that ownership in Camden and Islington is much lower than national figures found by the Home Office. This may have implications for the numbers of casualties from house fires in these boroughs.
