Abstract

This study attempted to determine the extent and etiology of all deaths among those of reproductive age, to examine the relationship between sociodemographic and reproductive characteristics and mortality, and to determine the level of utilization of health services among women prior to their death. Mortality rates were 5.1/10,000 in Etimesgut, 10.1/10,000 in Cubuk, and 5.1/10,000 in Nevsehir. The 5 main causes of death were: all cancers, heart disease, kidney disease, accidents, and suicide. Suicide was highest among unmarried women and it was most common under age 25. In order to achieve complete, correct, and continuous registration of health events, sufficient numbers of health personnel who have been well trained and supervised, as well as adequate transportation for clients will be essential.
