Abstract

Aim. The aim of the study was to determine and compare with previous national and international studies in terms of age, gender, location and time trends of perpetrators and court cases of abduction crime between 1998 and 2005. Method. The data was gathered from the Ministry of Justice (the court cases about abduction between 1998-2005 and Turkish Statistical Institute (2007 statistics). Results. According to our results, perpetrators were mostly older than 18 years old males and their victims were between 12 and 18 years of age. Based on standardized rates, the Marmara region's was the risky region among others. The least risky region was the Southeast region. The number of perpetrators between 1998 and 2005 were relatively stable. Conclusion. While number of abducted cases were high in our study, number of convicted cases were less.
