Abstract

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a public health concern with implications for injured persons, families, and society. This study examines how TBI affects family and marital relationships. A retrospective survey was conducted that requested responses from relatives of head injured individuals. The mean interval between the occurrence of head injury and survey response was eight years. Responses revealed the need for support, information, and education. The implementation of a case-management system, incorporating significant roles and functions for social workers can assist families in coping with traumatic brain injury.
