Abstract

Identification of victims of domestic violence is the first phase in the intervention of stopping the cycle of violence. Phase two is acting on that information and assisting the victims to help themselves. Nurses have the unique opportunity of being "present" at the bedside for the victim of abuse. This article reviews the signs and symptoms of domestic violence. Keen patient assessment tools and support can make a world of difference in the outcome of abuse.
