Abstract

Reports a case of a 36-yr-old man who, as a result of alcoholic excess, developed delusions of persecution and a state of hallucinatory excitement of short duration. These were followed by a stupor lasting 2 yrs, from which he recovered but with a total loss of power of recollection. The amnesia manifested by him was that of transitory retrograde variety, wherein there was a loss of recollection of all events of life of the individual up to a definite point. The case is interesting on account of the length of time of the stupor and the ambulatory automatism. A detailed history of the patient has been reported, along with the symptomatology and line of treatment. The patient made a satisfactory recovery after a period of tedious re-education effort.
