Abstract

New York City bears the almost inconceivable burden of keeping billions of wheels rolling through its 6,033 miles of streets, despite gigantic structural metamorphoses, hurricanes, blizzards, floods, and constant repairs to the street system. The article presents the twentieth century history of New York City street movement; it discusses the present traffic program; it looks at what is being done in enforcement; and examines plans for future traffic control.
