Abstract

Domestic Violence issues have lately attracted considerable attention in Japan. However the comprehensive knowledge of abused women in medical situation is not obtained in Japan. The purposes of this study were ; 1) to clarify the health problem of abused woman, 2) to clarify how abused women are treated in medical clinics and hospitals in Japan. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data on the experiences of 35 healthcare providers and 6 abused women selected by convenience and purposive sampling. The conclusions are as follows. 1) The abused women have many kinds of health problems. 2) Informed by Victims, the healthcare providers can identify the numerable incidences of domestic violence. Abused women have to be referred to social resources. 3) Building networks of health organization and responsible organizations is necessary to support abused women. 4) Healthcare providers have to respect and be trusted by abused women.
