Abstract

This paper discusses the use of time-dependent research methodology, focusing on diary research, observation of real-time interpersonal interaction and video-cued recall procedures. As well as discussing these methodologies in general terms, we will describe their application in a particular study which combined these methodologies in order to illustrate their advantages and disadvantages. Discussion of this study permits us to evaluate the appropriateness of the research methods to the study of social referencing and affect regulation, as well as indicating other possible applications and limitations
