Abstract

In order to predict the performance of structural building elements exposed to actual fires, three basic components have to be considered: the fire, the heat transfer to structural members and the effect of elevated temperature on structural performance. This paper examines some of the computer programs currently being used to model these three basic components. In addition, a model is proposed to predict the effect of fires on systems where the three basic components can be treated independently.
