Abstract

Conditions in areas of the building distant from the room of fire origin are of importance in assessing the risk to building occupants evacuating the building. Whereas any solution is approximate in nature, this paper describes a useful method for engineering purposes. Using the method described, the concentration of combustion products in each space can be determined to predict exposure levels and time of detector actuation. A time-integrated dose can be calculated for each building occupant based on their length of travel time from each room to the exit to evaluate the level of risk.
