Abstract

A mathematical zone model of the interaction between roof vents and sprinklers has been developed in a joint project by the U.K. Fire Research Station and Colt International Ltd. An earlier paper described the use of an extended version of Heselden's model to estimate the effects of venting on the operation of the first sprinkler. This paper describes further extensions of the model to estimate the effects of roof venting on the opening of further sprinklers and the radial temperature gradient below the ceiling. Predictions of the latter are shown to agree reasonably well with experimental results.
