Abstract

During the last decade, the criminal justice and mental health systems have attempted to increase their effectiveness in dealing with the problem of stalking. A multi-disciplinary approach to these cases, one in which both criminal justice and mental health approaches come together to address the problem, seems to be most effective. This article discusses how members of the San Diego community addressed the problem of stalking. The San Diego Stalking Strike Force was formed in 1994. Issues such as the implementation and application of the California stalking statute, formation of the Strike Force and its sub-groups, and goals and achievements of the Strike Force will be discussed. Case examples are presented to illustrate successful management and intervention techniques.
