Abstract

A method is described which enables the determination of the ethanol and water content in tissue samples using gas chromatography without preliminary treatment and with subsequent drying of the tissue. In this method approximately 100 mg of the tissue sample in 50 (mu)l of a 2.0(per mille) butanol solution are placed into a GC ampoule, analysed with a Multrifract F 40 gas chromatograph, and then evaluated with the help of the interior standard method. A standard factor fE is determined for each specimen. After subsequent drying of the tissue sample at 60(degrees)C (140(degrees)F) in the unplugged GC ampoule, the water in the specimen is calculated and the simultaneously measured ethanol concentration converted to that of 100% tissue water. This result therefore reflects the ethanol concentration in 100% tissue water. The reliability of this method was checked by control experiments. The relative variation coefficient of this method was 9%.
