Abstract

Drinking experiments were carried out with 20 test subjects. They were administered 0.8 g of alcohol per kg body weight. The drinking time was one hour. In addition to blood sampling, saliva samples were taken as well as determining the Breath Alcohol Concentration. This showed that the Saliva Alcohol Concentration (SAC) correlated closely with the Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC). However, in 12 out of 20 cases deviations between BrAC and BAC wet observed. It seems that the BrAC is influenced by the SAC which is 2100 times higher. Therefore the breath alcohol analysis would be considered inadmissible as evidence in a court of law as it only proves the amount of alcohol present in the breath at the time of measuring it.
