Abstract

Comparing breath alcohol values measured with the Alcolinger Automatic apparatus by the police to results of blood alcohol determinations in 453 drivers, 80% of those showed a deviation of (plus or minus) 20 to 30% in the breath alcohol values to blood alcohol concentration. In 20% of the examined persons the rate was even higher. This relative error is independent on the phase of the blood alcohol curve. Therefore, the determination of breath alcohol using the Alcolinger Automatic does not permit at any time a secure statement on the extent of blood alcohol concentration.
