Abstract

In consequence of a gash injury, a women alcoholic suffered an acute loss of blood and hemorrhagic shock. In spite of a blood substitution of a total of 9.5 liters, the woman died after 12 hours. The postmortal alcohol concentration in blood was 1.41(per mille), in bile 1.63(per mille). The pathophysiologic details of shock, the influence on the distribution of alcohol and the significance of the determination of alcohol in the described circumstances are discussed. Finally, the usefulness of the determination of alcohol in blood some hours after hemorrhagic shock develops and of blood substitution is discussed.
