Abstract

Closed-form models of fully developed enclosure fires are evaluated by comparing model predictions to temperature and burning rate data from experiments. The experimental data selected represent a wide spectrum of ventilation conditions, including fuel-controlled and ventilation-controlled burning. Most methods are found to underpredict either compartment fire temperatures or duration of burning under some conditions. Based on the comparisons, a recommendation is made as to which method should be used in a design or analysis context to model post-flashover fires in compartments that are nearly cubic in shape.
