Abstract

This study looks over reappearance of the novel about the problems that marginalized Vietnamese immigrant women in Korea facing in our society by focusing on Seo Seongran's short story . I analyze some problems that migrant women are facing in our society, especially, Vietnamese women's international marriage like human trafficking, migrant women's gender, sexuality, and identical anxiety. While marriage like human trafficking is regarded as 'women who are bought for marriage' among Koreans, it lead to oppression to these women. It represents a mother-in-law's curse, abuse, and pressure on pregnancy. Meanwhile Chuen's body is considered a solution to solve reproduction(childbirth) and care work, not only endure oppression for reproduction but also her husband's sexual obsession, house wife's role, and farm working. In particular, her husband, Chungil's eyes and tageted Chuen's body by experience implies not only men's power but also hierarchical relationships between Korean and Vietnamese. Problems Vietnamese go through in society are Koreans' eyes and attitude that disparage and discriminate them. Koreans' discriminative eyes and attitude make migrant women not to assimilate with Koreans. The writer, Seo Seongran analyzes that migrant women's various existential problem and Chuen's daylife. And she urges changes on attitude in Korean society by describing routine violence on migrant women delicately. As in , Chuen tries to get along with in Korean society and be a Korean, but spreadeagleism in Korea make her have an identical crisis and difficulties for enculturation. We need a mind to accept migrant women as neighbors and family with cultural relativity and policy.
