Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes of the objective and content of the area of 'Health in Daily Life' in the national kindergarten curriculum. It was based on the first National Kindergarten Curriculum up to the 2007 revised National Kindergarten Curriculum. According to the results, the objectives of 'health in daily life' included 'cultivating sensory and physical ability', 'health improvement', and 'safety'. All the curriculums commonly included the domains of sensory and physical cognition, physical ability, health, and safety. 'Sensory and physical cognition' was a domain that recognizes many changes based on each education curriculum. 'Physical ability' was a domain that reflects the gradual establishment of the concept and systematical theories of physical ability. In the 'health' domain, there was an ongoing emphasis on sanitation, rest, diet, and disease prevention. As the interest in mental health grew during the 4th edition curriculum, the contents of a newly focused sub-domain 'enjoyable lifestyle' became more concrete. The 'safety' domain included playtime safety, traffic safety, and other accidents prevention. From the 6th National Curriculum, new concepts such as environmental pollution, safety education for preventing sexual abuse, and media safety were added.
