Abstract

This article provides an overview of key vulnerabilities to human trafficking in the Pacific Islands and some approaches to addressing them. It presents evidence from Pacific Island stakeholder forums and consultations conducted by the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) and its regional partners in 2008 and 2009. The definition of trafficking in the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children is described. The article also explores the involvement of transnational crime in human trafficking.
