Abstract

Small group dynamics constitutes the basis for most organization development. Small groups such as counseling, therapy, and support groups are informal organizations and are similar in structure and dynamics to formal organizations. The author presents examples of the three most common types of organization development interventions: process consultation, team development, and conflict management. The first emphasizes structuring the agenda to foster more trust, openness, and commitment. The second points to the need for a high degree of participative leadership in planning, implementing, and follow-up as crucial to improved team functioning. The third discusses careful preparation and ranking of participants as a major factor in working through the conflict.
