Abstract

Body packing is the act of smuggling drugs, usually across international borders, by way of internal concealment. The most common drugs smuggled are cocaine and heroin; they are usually packaged into improvised C-battery sized wrapped containers. The containers are usually swallowed but may be inserted rectally or vaginally.

Body packers (drug mules) can present to the emergency delartment without symptoms or with acute severe drug intoxication if the retained packets have leaked or ruptured.
