Abstract

We read with interest the article by Gould et al., 2004 about coping strategies and help-seeking behavior for suicidality in American adolescents. Although its total suicide rate is, since 1985, continuously decreasing ( Rihmer et al., 2000), Hungary still has the highest total suicide rate in Central Europe. To the authors' knowledge, there are no previous reports on adolescent attitudes toward suicide and help-seeking behavior from Hungary. This pilot study investigated suicide risk factors, attitudes, and knowledge as well as help-seeking patterns in Hungarian adolescents.
