Abstract

This case study examines how sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) in the United States are in a unique position to provide valuable medical forensic documentation for immigrant victims. In addition to providing evidence to solve crimes domestically, SANEs may help victims of persecution and human rights violations receive legally protected immigration status. Incorporating The Istanbul Protocol into practice provides SANEs with a tool to advocate for and protect the rights of immigrant victims both domestically and abroad.
