Abstract

An expression is given for the maximum vertical flow in a simple shaft as a result of stack action. It is intended to relate to a simple building and to the evaluation of the airflow necessary to pressurize a building. The authors show that a number of building air flow patterns can, to a close approximation, be completely analyzed, both quantitatively and qualitatively, with the aid of elementary mathematics.
