Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate current unintentional injury cognitive level and its influencing factors among pupils in a county, and to provide the scientific basis for unintentional injury intervention.

METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1084 pupils.5 primary schools were selected by stratified cluster random sampling method from all primary schools in a county to collect the information regarding unintentional injury cognition.

RESULTS The mean score for cognition of unintentional injury was 30.02.The highest and lowest score was 42 and 2,the passing rate of injury knowledge score was 61.4%.Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that risk factors related to cognition score of unintentional injury were primary school in town (OR =2.100,95% CI:1.463-3.017),village (OR =3.908,95% CI:1.639-9.319) and mother occupation (OR =4.417,95% CI:1.402-13.916).The protective factors of cognition score was senior students (OR =0.527,95% CI:0.368-0.755).

CONCLUSION It is a common phenomenon that pupils are lack of the cognition for unintentional injury, more educational intervention about prevention of unintentional injury and disposal of emergency should be considered and carried out, especially for the students whose schools are located in town/village or whose mothers are workers.
