Abstract

The retrospective study has been carried out to evaluate trend of occurrence of suicidal poisoning cases in the area of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar from the year 2012-2016. The data reports on suicidal deaths were collected from different police directly and by RTI. The suicidal cases in 177 number have been assessed on the various factors such as year of happening, age of subject, sex of subject, marital status of subject, occupation of subject, type of poisoning consumed by the subject and reason of consuming the poison by subject. It has been observed from results of the retrospective study of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar that maximum number of poisoning deaths were observed in the year 2016 which were 43 in number (24.29%) has. The age group of 21-30 years was found to be major victim to the deaths and married males were far more in number than the females. People belonging to the agriculture labour class (36.15%) were among suicidal victim. Domestic violence (39.54%) was the reason found in the suicidal death reports. which is followed by 36 cases of financial crisis (20.33%). Aluminium phosphide group of insecticides was again found to be the biggest source of suicidal poisoning cases among the population of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. It is suggested to take preventive measures by the government and vendors for selling of agricultural pesticides to anybody.
