Abstract

Recently, bicycle traffic spaces are being developed on roadways in Japan. In order to prevent crashes involving bicycles, it is important to know the characteristics of crashes considering the position of the road where the bicycles run just before the crush. In this study, the authors presume the position of bicycles using traffic accident data in Saitama Prefecture in Japan and aerial photographs and analyzed crashes between bicycles and left turning vehicles. In conclusion, the authors found that the crash type tends to be like a crossing collision in cases the bicycle run on sidewalk.
