Abstract

The article gives a brief historical excursus on the problem of optimization of the speed and gross weight of freight trains on Russian Railways. We report the actual research results of the effect of rates of freight traffic on fuel and energy expenditures for their traction. We also offer the optimization procedures of speeds of freight trains by various criteria.
