Abstract

Recently, aerodynamic development for production car is performed with CFD and wind tunnel with moving ground to reproduce the real world conditions. However, it is very hard to clarify the effect of vehicle dynamic motions on aerodynamic performance. In this study, simplified subscale car model was used to understand these effects on aerodynamic drag lift and flow characteristics. Less than 1% increase in drag was clarified under heave and pitch motions due to ones of main factors: pseudo change in angle of attack, Venturi effect under floor and change in lift induced drag by stronger negative pressure.
